Daniel Schimkat

Quality isn’t a test phase at the end. It’s a decision at the start. At TIMOCOM I make sure bugs in three products surface before release, not after.

About me

Lots of tests are not the same as quality. A hundred bad tests can pass while the bugs land in production. So the first thing I ask of every test is which risk it covers. At TIMOCOM I have built the test automation and its GitLab CI pipeline from zero since 2022. Products were added over time, and since 2026 I have owned quality for rating, fleet management and route planning.

Knowledge grows when you share it, in both directions. At TIMOCOM that exchange is part of everyday work: I support colleagues in test automation and learn at least as much from them. Good solutions belong to the whole team, not to one person.

I come from embedded: an electrical engineering degree, a vehicle controller for a Formula Student race car, control units for car manufacturers. There you learn very quickly how expensive bugs are when they only show up in the field. That’s why I think about quality from the first requirement. It’s also where I saw what automation delivers: at Bosch, a signal evaluation ran in minutes instead of hours once it was automated. Time like that pays off in faster or better-validated releases. I use AI as a tool, not an excuse. To get some distance, I run, travel and ride my motorcycle.

E 10/2022 – present

Software Quality Assurance Engineer

TIMOCOM
  • Since 2026, owning quality for rating, fleet management and route planning
  • Derive test strategies straight from requirements in the Scrum team; test management in Testmo
  • Built the test automation and GitLab CI pipeline from zero with Playwright and TypeScript, holding every test to one rule: it has to cover a real risk
  • API, contract, load and integration testing (including k6) and synthetic monitoring with Checkly, so bugs show up before customers report them
  • Supported the migration to Azure (Kubernetes, Argo CD, CloudNativePG)
  • Knowledge sharing in the team: supporting colleagues in test automation and learning from them
D 10/2021 – 09/2022

Software Test Engineer

Brunel

Validated control units for vehicle subsystems of German and international car manufacturers, from test specification through execution and evaluation to documentation, using tools such as CANalyzer.

C 09/2019 – 04/2020

Bachelor thesis student

Bosch Engineering GmbH

Automated tests and evaluation for the electrical robustness of power electronic components in electric vehicles with ECU-TEST and Python. Result: signal evaluation in minutes instead of hours by hand.

B 02/2019 – 08/2019

Student assistant

FMDauto, Institut für Produktentwicklung und Innovation

Built a GPS simulation for a field sprayer controller and analysed ISOBUS communication in the DODES project.

A 03/2017 – 08/2019

Student assistant

e-Traxx Düsseldorf (Formula Student)

Developed the vehicle controller for the Formula Student race car, based on TI C2000 and programmed in Matlab Simulink.
